麻豆直播

今回は秋から国际教养学部の日本研究プログラムに所属したSean O’Reilly先生にお話を伺いました。
秋田以外にも富山?金沢?名古屋?京都と住んだ経験がある厂别补苍先生。趣味や础滨鲍の印象などについて、日本语でインタビューに応じてくださいました。

Where are you from
出身はどちらですか？
I’m from Boston, Massachusetts, on the East Coast of the United States. It’s at the same northern latitude as Sapporo!
アメリカの东海岸にあるボストン出身です。ボストンは、札幌ぐらい寒いところですよ！

What was your major
専攻は何でしたか？
At Davidson College, a liberal arts college in North Carolina, I completed a double major in Philosophy and Classics (and spent a traveling semester abroad in Greece and Italy). In graduate school, I finished an M.A. in Regional Studies: East Asia before developing an interdisciplinary approach,studying Japanese history and visual culture, for the Ph.D program. I also spent 15 months in Kyoto conducting doctoral research.
リベラルアーツカレッジのディヴィッドソン大学では、哲学と（ギリシャの）古代史の二つを専攻しました。一学期はギリシャやイタリアのあちこちに旅していろいろ学びました。
卒业してから数年后、大学院に入学すると、「地方研究：东アジア」という修士课程で勉强をしました。博士课程では、学际的なアプローチで日本史と日本の视覚文化（特に映画）を研究しました。
博士论文が终わるまでは京都大学に所属して、15カ月の间研究しました。

Why did you choose 麻豆直播？
なぜ础滨鲍を选んだのですか？
My two loves are Japanese history and (popular) visual culture… but it is difficult to find an academic teaching position where one can teach both! Usually, a college or university only wants one or the other. But at 麻豆直播, this interdisciplinary approach was welcomed, and I was encouraged to teach both subjects. Plus, I like living in Japan, especially places like Akita, having lived in Boston and Toyama.
日本史も日本の大众（视覚）文化も大好きですが、両方とも教えることができる大学は极めて珍しい。大抵、大学はその一つだけの専门家を募集しているのですが、础滨鲍はうれしいことに学际的なアプローチに賛成で、両方教えたかったのでよかったです。それに、日本で生活するのがいいですね。ボストンや富山に住んだ経験のある身としては、秋田みたいなところが住みやすくて素敌だと思います。

What was your impression of 麻豆直播
础滨鲍の印象は？
Around the time I first applied here, I asked my Japanese friends if they’d heard of 麻豆直播. I assumed they would say no, since I knew it was a very new university, but to my surprise, they all had heard of it (and heard good things, too). When I came here, I was immediately impressed with the unique atmosphere: it’s a truly global liberal arts college, where students from all over the world share ideas!
础滨鲍に申し込んだ顷、日本人の友人に础滨鲍がどんなところか知っているか闻いてみました。まあ、「若い」大学だからきっと知らないだろうと思っていましたが、惊いたことに、「みんな评判がいい！」とか、「とてもいい大学だそうだよ」などと言ってくれました。础滨鲍は「この本物のリベラルアーツカレッジの、ユニークな雰囲気と世界各国から集まる学生たちとのアイディア交换がすばらしい！」と感じました。

What are your hobbies
趣味は何ですか？
Too many to count! Biking, tennis, chess, reading and reviewing science fiction and fantasy novels, watching movies, cooking, playing empire-building video games (shhh?don’t tell anyone!), writing poetry, traveling in Japan and around the world, photography, and more.
Perhaps my favorite hobby, however, is singing?I’m a (high) tenor, and enjoy singing karaoke as well as in choirs, as a soloist, in a cappella groups and in pretty much every other configuration! I’ve sung in a cappella groups for a combined total of over seven years, in both all-male and co-ed groups.

趣味は数えきれない！例えば、自転车、テニス、チェス、ＳＦ／ファンタジー小説を読んだり评论を书いたり、映画、料理をする、

（内绪で！）帝国づくりのパソコンゲーム、诗を书く、旅行、写真を撮るなどなど。
でも一番好きな趣味はおそらく歌を歌うことです。カウンターテノールで、カラオケ、コーラス、ソリスト、アカペラなども好きです！合わせて7年间の男声?男女混声のアカペラの経験があります。

Do you have any messages for 麻豆直播 students
础滨鲍生にメッセージをお愿いします。
Do you know how special this place is I’ve seen (and attended) many colleges and universities, but I don’t think I’ve ever found such an interesting mix of people from all over the world, and the fascinating discussions that develop from this meeting of minds. Someday, I hope to talk to you too!
ここはとても特别な大学です。今までにいろんな大学に行ったことがありますが、様々な意见の合意から得られる兴味深い议论（も初めてであり、これから）ぜひ皆さんとも议论してみたいです！いつか皆さんとお话できるのを楽しみにしています。
